Racism Variation

1.cold 2. Short term would be shivering. The body will create heat by shivering and allow the body to maintain the same internal temperature. Facultative would be blood flow. Constricted blood flow allows the body to keep the main organs alive in case of hypothermia. Fire would be developmental. In order to stay alive you have to stay around a heat source allowing the human body to stay alive and healthy. Cultural would be animal hide skins or any sort of bug clothing. To survive in the environment you have to adapt and wear more clothing outside. 3.The benefits is showing how different people adapt to their environment. This can help us adapt to our environment if we were to change climate or move and live in another location.  4.I would use race to explain the cold weather because people who do not get much light will have lighter skin. Environmental influences give race an explanation to why it happens.

Language Experiment

Part 1 1. Not being able to talk was a barrier that I never noticed. We use language all the time to speak so this was a very big challenge for me. The experiment consisted of my father and I. At the very start he was trying to guess what i was trying to communicate with him. I could point at things but he was having a hard time understanding me. At the end of it the conversation did not get anywhere. 2. My father was in charge of the conversation because I was the one who could not speak. Since I could not end or start a new topic he had to just keep the conversation alive or just start a new topic. If there was another person in this experiment I would definitely be excluded. The only response I could is yes or no answers. The two individuals who have the voice could have power because they can express their own opinion where I just have to follow along because I cannot communicate with them. 3. The one population who uses spoken language can express their ideas easily and more co...

piltdown hoax

Piltdown Hoax The Piltdown Hoax happened in the 1912 in a small town called Piltdown. Charles Dawson was the founder of the Hoax Fossil. The effect on the scientific community is that question everything if someone finds a new discovery. Challenge them and ask all of the questions to make sure it is actually a true and new discovery. This also made the community puzzled when they actually found new discoveries and it did not match Dawson's fossil. All of the people involved and the prestige of a scientists so they faked the discovery so they can achieve that status. Arthur Kieth was one of the masterminds because they believe that the discovery proved his theory and that it gave him that status at the time too. Another person related was Martin Hinton. They found an old trunk that belonged to him that had forgery fossils that were made by him. This experience has taught scientists that this could happen and to not trust anyone without all of the evidence present. The fault that...

week 3 Analogy/Homology

Image
Analogy/Homology     The two species that posses the homologous trait are whales and horses. The forearm is the homologous trait. The forearm in both mammals function the same where they allow the animal to move but in different ways. Both horse and whale come from a common decedent of a mammal. The main difference in both mammals is their primary function. The whale had a more of a swampy river environment which develops fins to make it more suitable for its environment. That is why the forearm is smaller because it does not need the pressure of gravity. The horse because it needs to run on land has a bigger forearm to support itself when running and the pressure of gravity when sprinting across the land. One is meant for running on land while the other is made to tread through the oceans water. These mammals are related because both have the similar bone structure on specifically being the forearm so we can assume that they came from a common ancestor. We can make this t...

Week 1- Historical Influences on Darwin: Jean Lamarck

One of the individuals that that influenced Darwin's Theory of Evolution was a French naturalist named Jean-Baptiste Lamarck. He developed a theory called the use-disuse theory. One of the contributions Lamarck made to the scientific community "was only one of the two mechanisms he proposed. As organisms adapted to their surroundings, nature also drove them inexorably upward from simple forms to increasingly complex ones"(O'Neil). Lamarck was trying to say that any species of animal doe not have genetic deficiencies and that they cannot go instinct. This theory of Lamarck is inaccurate because "only those traits that are influenced by genetic information contained within sex cells(eggs and sperm) can be inherited"(Jurmain, Kilgore, Trevathan, Ciochon, Bartelink 31).  This allowed Darwin to question whether or not a species can have deficiencies in the genes. He also had to question whether or not a species can go instinct. This allowed Darwin to go on and do...
